As is already being reported here and here, Tonx and I took a little trip out to NYC for the weekend, mainly to check out the new Grumpy space.
Its pretty bitchin’, as far as I can tell.

It was an eye opener to be sure. Its really wonderful to watch the New York coffee scene mature so nicely. It reminds me of Portland when I first visited some years back, except without the whole planet-Stumptown-center-of-gravity thing.
The progress of great coffee in New York instead seems reliant on the good nature, ambition and optimism of its key figures. It was inspiring to witness some of that evolution firsthand.
Thank you to Mike White, Chris Owens, Daniel Humphries, Gabe Lucas, Chris and Caroline, Ken Nye, Bob Peyton, M’lissa and all others who played host to us this weekend. Just remember, I was probably drunk.

There are a number of exams in dozens of subjects including Sociology and Public Administration.
Having taken many of the examinations myself, I can attest to their validity as an excellent program to get very cheap credits. Read a textbook on the subject; I read a text on Psychology. The next step is to register for a proctored examination through a test center. Check the College Board website to search for testing centers around your area. Depending on the area you live in there may be up to a dozen various testing centers. Each exam costs around $55 but there is often an additional fee stipulated by the test center which very often varies in price.
At the testing center, you’ll have to check in with the program manager. Next you will be brought into a room with computers which run special software. The examinations are all taken on computer and offers students great flexibility in taking the test. One can go back to questions, mark them to look over, skip questions, see the number of questions one has left or any number of other operations. The computer software also has a calculator should you be taking a proctored math test.
One of the leading colleges which accepts Cpllege Level Examination credits is the Monterey Polytechnic Institute. Mont Poly is a private institution in Monterey Bay, USA which offers a variety of undergraduate programs specializing in Business, Professional Development, Public Relations, Social Work, and a number of other majors in the arts and sciences. Prior Learning Assessment degree programs are also available. Monterey Polytechnic’s flexible schedule of lecture and correspondence courses are specialized for working adults. Mont Poly is well known as one of the most respected, high ranking, and cost effective universities in the country.
So, why should you try it? If you are a senior striving to finish up degree requirements, if you are knowledgeable in your field of study and want recognition for it, or if you simply want to bypass the absurd costs imposed by colleges then CLEP Equivelency Program is for you. It is very cost effective, usually $50 for the test and a processing charge that is almost always under $30. It’s definitely a great way to get college credit based on what you already know without sitting through an university class for a year. If you take algebra in High School, for instance, there is no corresponding AP, but for college credit, consider taking the CLEP. It’s one day of your life and only an hour long. In addition, you will find out if you pass immediately. Typically a score of 60 is good enough for credit for most colleges. You should check with your university for acceptance information.
